You want a cloud service that offers zero-knowledge encryption for the best possible security. Whatever data your company stores on its NAS devices, you want it to be secure when you back it up.

You may just be using your Synology NAS as a multimedia hub for the family, or you could be a large company storing sensitive project files, but whatever your use case is, you’ll want a good Synology NAS cloud backup solution.

) Solution was to remove "nice -n 19" from the /opt/crashplan/bin/CrashPlanEngine change line 14 to just: $JAVACOMMON $SRV_JAVA_OPTS -classpath $FULL_CP > $TARGETDIR/log/engine_output.log 2> $TARGETDIR/log/engine_error.log & Understandably, the use of nice was to reduce cpu priority to crashplan processes but in my case I am okay with it (TS-639Pro) and if removing nice call in the start up function was all I need to run it, I'm going for it. My qnap's ipkg did not have 'nice' installed, which is called by CrashEngine start up script: (nice -n 19 $JAVACOMMON. I hope all goes well for anyone willing to try it but be warned CrashPlan requires at least 1 GB of ram because this is a java application. One final thing don't run this as root since there is no root account so you will want to run this as admin. I downloaded mine to /opt and installed crashplan to /opt/crashplan.

One more thing is required make sure you download the installer to /opt or somewhere on the main mounts because / does not have much space and you will run out of space otherwise. I just edited the top line to read #!/opt/bin/bash Also in the file you will need to edit the file on this line: BINSLOC="/bin /opt/bin /usr/bin /usr/local/bin" I added in /opt/bin because thats where some of the utils needed were installed.

CRASHPLAN FOR QNAP INSTALL
Install Packages required for CrashPlan Install: ipkg install cpio ipkg install bash ipkg install coreutils After those are installed you will need to edit the install.sh file or make a symlink for /bin/bash since the script is bash based. You must have IPKG installed and working. This may work because this NAS has more RAM than some of the others but there are a few things that need to be modified to get this working. I have crashplan working on a TS-809U-RP perfectly.
